Recent Travels

This past Sunday we had the privilege of helping at an ECC Jr kids party. The kids were great and it was a really enjoyable time in Takamatsu. There were games, reading presentations, a costume contest and a Trick or Treat maze. We also had the opportunity to talk with Jr. High school students who helped with the event. All around a great time!
　私たちは先週の日曜日、ECCジュニア（英語スクール）のハロウィーンキッズパーティにヘルパーとして参加しました。かほく市高松であったのですが、高松や七塚に住んでいるECCジュニアに通う子供たちが参加し、とても楽しかったです。ゲームや子供たちによる英語の本の朗読発表会（みんなすごーく緊張していました！！）、コスチュームコンテストやTrick or Treatの迷路などで盛り上がりました。また、そのイベントを手伝ってくれていた中学生の子たちとも話しをする機会があり、みんなとても上手な英語で会話してくれましたよ！楽しい時間をすごすことができました。



On Monday we drove over to Himi in Toyama to see this great view of Tateyama and the Japan Alps across the bay!
　月曜日には富山県の氷見まで行ってきました。立山や北アルプスの山並みが雪化粧をしてとても美しく見られました。

Iwama Onsen

朝晩かなり寒くなってきましたね！体調をくずされている方も多いようですので、皆様どうぞご自愛ください。私はというと、いつまで半そでで粘れるか頑張っていましたが、とうとうあきらめ長袖になりました。
さて、先週石川県白山市（旧尾口村）のおくの奥、岩間温泉に言ってきました。温泉旅館はもう廃業してないのですが、天然露天風呂があり、無料でだれでも利用できます。といっても入っているのは男の人ばかり。私はさすがに遠慮しました。でも、すごく気持ちよさそうだったので、いつかまた平日に水着持参でトライしたいと思います。実は今回の目的は温泉ではなく、さらに４０分ほど歩いたところにある噴泉塔を見ることでした。川沿いに石の塔がいくつか立ち並び、その先端から高温の温泉が噴出している・・はずでした。が、たどり着くとそんな光景はまったく見当たらず！岩から煙があがっているところや、温泉が流れだしているところはありましたが、岩から勢い良く噴出している、geyserみたいなものはありませんでした。後で聞くと、何年か前の地震で塔がすべてなくなってしまったそうです。往復１０キロも歩いたのに・・・無念。まぁ、いい運動になったかという一日でした。

October is here!

October is our favorite month of the year! We are so happy to have a few new students in our classes. It's been a year already since this school got off the ground and we feel privileged to teach so many wonderful and talented students! Thanks everyone!

　私たちの大好きな季節、１０月になりました！新しい生徒も増えきて、にぎわっています。私たちがフォレストイングリッシュをスタートさせてから丸一年がたちました。すばらしい才能にあふれた生徒たちに囲まれてレッスンをすることができ、とてもとてもうれしく感謝しています！

　さて、最近、家ごはんにはまっています。もう３週間近く外食をしていません（私は小学校で教えているので給食は食べていますが、主人はずっと家ごはん）。以前は週に２、３回は外食していたのですが、なんだか食べ飽きてきて、家でのごはんがとてもおいしく感じます。新鮮な野菜やフルーツをたくさん食べられるので健康的な上、心も満足できて良いです。我が家は基本的には日本食で、主人もあまり好き嫌いはないので作る側は楽です。これから食べ物がおいしい秋。何をつくろうかな？

衣替え

　大変ご無沙汰しております。エモリ夏代です。ゴールデンウィークで始まった５月もあっという間に終わりです。ちゃくちゃくと６月がやってきます。私が学生だったころは、６月から衣替えだったような気がしますが、今でもそうなのかな？実は先日、主人と言い争いになりました。冬の生地のズボンをはいていたので注意したのです。季節にあってないからおかしい！と。でも何か悪いのかまったく理解せず、がんとして聞き入れませんでした。日本では季節にあった服装をするというのを自然に教えられ、”衣替え”をしていますよね。しかし、アメリカでは夏でも寒ければセーターを着るし、冬でも快適なら半そで短パンありだそうです。もちろん衣替えなどという行為はありません。というわけで話があわず言い争いに・・。なんとか日本の文化を説明しましたが、ふーんという感じでした。文化の違いから、これまでさまざまな言い争いがありましたが、また一つ新しいことを発見した日でした。
　　　

Cycling Around the Noto Parts 1-3

Golden Week Adventure!

It is great to be back teaching everyone again, but we had an exciting Golden Week! Wanting to try something different we set out on our bicycles to cycle around the Noto Peninsula from Nonoichi all the way around to Notomachi (Ushitsu). With good weather and little wind the riding was enjoyable and gave us great views at the tops of hills and along the coastal highways and cycling paths.
I compiled a video and might upload it soon.

Spring is in the Air!

The weather is warming up and I am getting excited about all the new lessons at our school. We feel truly blessed to start out the class year with so many great students. Here are a few pictures I have taken recently.

Teaching English: Always Challenging

As January finishes and February begins I think about being a teacher. Over the years I have noticed how it is always a challenge to motivate and encourage students as they study this difficult subject of English. Normally I am a positive person who wants to see all students grow and improve, but trying to stay creative can be a struggle from time to time. Teaching is an amazing job and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to instruct the children and adults at our school. Every day brings something new, which is always exciting! I hope all of you out there are studying and trying your best in the jobs you do every day.
February is going to be a great month!!!!!

あけましておめでとうございます

　あけましておめでとうございます。Forest　Englishのエモリ夏代です。本年も身につく・役立つ英会話の習得を目標として、皆様に質の高いレッスンを提供していきたいと思っております。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
　お正月は毎年そうなのですが、私たちは特になにもspecialなことはしていません。本を読んだり、必要なものを買い揃えたりするくらいです。私の実家は金沢なので、元旦の夜に実家でおせち料理をいただくくらいです。あと、運動不足解消のため、ふらふら散歩ばかりしています。
　お正月のお買い物で、私はとうとうbread makerを手に入れました！以前知り合いの方から貸していただいていたのですが、フル活用していたので、自分のものを持つことにしました。これで毎朝焼きたてのパンを食べることができます！シナモンロールも簡単にできる！（と思う）。主人はミニパソコンを買いました。acerというメーカーのもので、重さ約１キロ、HD160GBです。値段も安いしとっても便利ですよ！
　さぁ、今日からレッスンスタートです！久しぶりに皆さんに会えるのを楽しみにしています。今年も少しずつ、着実に英会話力をつけていきましょう！
