Sometimes my wife and I like to go try new restaurants in our area. We have many kinds to chose from; traditional Japanese, Italian, Indian, noodle shops, rice ball shops, fast food shops. Today we chose our late lunch at Ebi-ya, a small restaurant which used to be a steak house. It sits on the first floor of an apartment building on the banks of the Fushimi river very close to a well known Kampo (Chinese herbal medicine) shop. They now specialize in Kame-meshi, freshly baked rice with various mixed in ingredients. Since the rice is cooked separately for each dish the result is a better flavor for the customer. I ordered the sansai (mountain vegetables) set and my wife ordered the asari (small clams) set. This came with two mini hamburgs, miso soup, salad, pickles and a choice of desert and beverages. We selected hot coffee and goma (sesame) ice cream. The meal was good with the fresh flavors mingling together as the jazz music played softly in the background. The price was also very good at 980 yen for each set.
